Hydra Balm

Transepidermal Water Loss

Trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL) occurs when water passes from the dermis through the epidermis and evaporates from the skin’s surface. As TEWL increases, the skin’s natural barrier function is weakened. Skin will then show signs of dehydration and dryness. Hydra Balm provides an occlusive barrier to lock in moisture and help soothe and heal dry, compromised skin.

Skin Barrier DOs + DON'Ts

The skin barrier, also known as the stratum corneum, serves as the primary defense against external stressors and acts as a protective shield, preventing water loss. Don’t over exfoliate which can compromise the carrier’s integrity. Do use gentle cleansers that won’t strip away its natural oils. Don’t use products with harsh, irritating ingredients that can disrupt the skin’s delicate balance. Finally, do use moisturizers, like Hydra Balm, to hydrate and strengthen the skin barrier.

Post Treatment Skin Protection

Aftercare for a dermatological procedure is as important as the treatment itself. Post-treatment, the skin’s protective barrier is weakened, leaving it more vulnerable to damage. Hydra Balm is formulated with aloe vera and squalene to provide relief to dry, post-treatment skin, while pure petrolatum forms a protective barrier over vulnerable skin.

How to Use Hydra Balm

Apply Hydra Balm liberally as needed to severely dry or compromised areas on face and body.

For a targeted dry skin treatment, apply a light coating of Hydra Balm in the evening to hands or feet; cover hands with gloves or feet with socks and leave overnight.
